Coffee at Benner's - March 21, 2024

“Health isn't everything but without it everything is nothing”

Wise words by A. Schopenhauer, a German philosopher, that we were reminded of at the event at the Benner’s on March 21, 2024.

In addition to getting together again and having a nice conversation (and a delicious cake), we had the opportunity to listen to a lecture by a nutritionist, Renate Dorweiler. She has spoken about good eating habits and a balanced diet, sharing tips on how we all can improve our health and preserve well-being. After the lecture, she was faced by challenging questions by you, so the event ended on a high with a very lively discussion.

Herring Lunch - February 14, 2024

The reserved room in the Forsthaus Rheinblick was filled to its full capacity! We welcomed 41 guests. Everybody seemed to enjoy the lunch in the harmonious atmosphere; there were a lot of  lively conversations...such a nice get-together.
And as this lunch took place on the Valentine's Day there was a small, sweet present for everyone. 💙

New Year's Reception - January 18, 2024

Our New Year's reception brought the existing and new members together, set the right framework and kicked off the year 2024 successfully. A big thank you to all the ladies who braved the weather conditions and found their way to the Girasole restaurant.

The program was extensive and included the President's and Treasurer's annual report. The charity chairwoman announced the donations and introduced the individual charity organizations.

A big thank you went to the ladies at the collection point who sort around 600 boxes every year and send them to the Bazaar. Please save the date for this traditional event: April 20, 2024!

The two ladies who brought our traditional welcome brunch back to life were also recognized - thank you!

After the official part, we were able to enjoy a delicious 3-course menu and have interesting, inspiring conversations.

English Book Group

The English Book Group is one of many interest groups our club offers to its members. The ladies meet once a month to read and discuss a selected English book they have read.

In November, they enjoyed delicious home-made food after work. Such a great idea to end the year!

Benefit concert 2023

Finally another great concert, organized by women's clubs in Wiesbaden. After the pandemic and renovation at Mercedes, the time had finally come. A great women's quartet performed and they had it all. Mayor Mende also didn't miss this event. From classical to film music to pop, everything was there. The group La Finesse thrilled the audience with a lot of sophistication, precision and feeling. Simply worth seeing.

Trip to Turin

From 1s to 4 October there were 20 (!!!) of us in Turin. Turin is famous for its chocolate, so we visited a factory and tasted chocolate extensively. Coffee is another mainstay in Turin thanks to the Lavazza family. We had a great tour around the museum learning about the family and company history, built just 5 years ago, just for ourselves. The visit was crowned by Francesca Lavazza, one of the family members who now manage the company; a great woman with empathy and enthusiasm for coffee.

Turin has 60 markets per day - of course we couldn't miss them. Last but not least, Fiat, now Stellantis, had to be visited in THE auto city par excellence: the building of the first production line with its test track on the roof and an impressive private collection of art from the Agnelli family and of course the current production of the Fiat 550 E and We were shown Maserati. It's impressive how much logistics such a production requires.

We saw a lot, ate a lot (the wine was also good), laughed a lot and got along well!

Coffee & Talk  - July 2023

The second "Coffee & Talk" was a great success!

More than 30 members were present and were pleased to meet again as some ladies have not attended any event for a long time. The idea to meet with other members, chat about God and the world and listen to an interesting lecture, was actually a dazzling inspiration that has fully struck the chord with all guests. Christine Rother-Ulrich's lecture brought us into the little known world called "Marketing of Art".

Very strong, entertaining and interesting. Looking forward to the next event in September - at 10.30 a.m. - 12.30 p.m., Loftwerk, Langgasse 20, Wiesbaden (1st floor).

"Wiesbaden engagiert"

For the second year in a row, 11 ladies from the German-American International Women's Club participated in the city campaign "Wiesbaden engagiert".

During the Inclusion Run through the city on June 14, we provided drinks, granola bars and fruit to the 200 participants. In the run-up to the Special Olympics which begins on June 17 in Berlin, many teams from around the world had this opportunity to acclimatize in various cities. Wiesbaden had the pleasure to welcome the Indonesian team of 44 members with intellectual disabilities. The rest of the runners were volunteers from different areas such as the Environmental Office, Children's Hospice Bärenherz, Police and many others.

It was a wonderful experience for all of us and the work was a lot of fun.

Coffee & Talk

Open to everyone, including guests or interested parties from Germany and abroad. "Coffee & Talk" means: we meet, mingle, socialize while enjoying a cappuccino with a small pastry. These mornings are rounded off with a short lecture/reading/music - either by external members or by our own members.

10.30 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. every 2nd Thursday of the month at Loftwerk, Langgasse 20, Wiesbaden (1st floor)

For room rental/coffee/tea/water/pastries and the lecture we ask for a fee of 15 €. The minimum attendance is 10 persons. Please register by emailing u.schmalohr@hotmail.com.

More information is available on our Facebook event page.

GAIWC is engaged!

Members of the German-American International Women's Club will be on duty on June 14 in the run-up to the 2023 Special Olympics, held in Berlin. They won't be in Berlin though but here in Wiesbaden! GAIWC has been supporting the "Wiesbaden Engagiert" campaign for two years.

Some teams want to acclimatize before the competitions in Berlin and start in different cities first. This is also the case in Wiesbaden, and here we'll have the team from Indonesia that is taking part in an inclusion run with a total of 200 participants. Our ladies will provide the athletes with drinks and snacks along the course. Participants in the "Special Olympics" are predominantly mentally handicapped.

Club birthday

Jens Peter Jens from the Dr. Alex and Eva Friend Foundation donates a considerable sum to our club every year. This was also the wish of the founder of this foundation who was our member many years ago. On the right is the check presentation to the two presidents of the club: Ulrike Jaskulski-Klein (right) and Sarah Szway.

The German-American International Women's Club celebrated its 74th birthday in March in a beautiful setting of Benner's Bistronomie. In addition to check presentations to all the organizations we support, there was a small program featuring up-and-coming talent Mali Carillo.

15-year-old Mali Carillo (on the right) recited her own pro-women and anti-sexist poem.

Newcomers' meeting

Four times a year the German-American International Women's Club organizes a "newcomers meeting". At this meeting, club members present the program, goals and activities of the club and are available to answer any questions from all interested women from Germany and abroad. In addition, the newcomers can hear what membership is all about as well as how they could co-create the program. Surely, there will be something for every lady!

The next newcomers meeting will take place on 18 April at 11 a.m. in the Lumen Café, Marktplatz, 65183 Wiesbaden.

After the summer break we will meet twice: on 19 September at 5 p.m. and on 21 November at 11 a.m. All meetings will take place at Lumen Café, Marktplatz, Wiesbaden.

Our golf group meetings

The golf group of the German-American International Women's Club now has 13 members.

We meet 1-2 times a month and play on 6 different courses for a greenfee. It's a great fun and you could be part of it if you join the club!

Charity Spring Bazaar

More on our Charity Spring Bazaar that took place on 25 March 2023 can be found here.

Visit to ZDF - a great success!

Trip to Shanghai

Our club also organizes a trip abroad at times. One big group was in Prague for 5 days (see below) and a smaller group visited Shanghai. We were lucky that one of our members lived there temporarily and could organize this trip. It was an unforgettable experience.

Trip to Prague

Since we are an international women's club, sometimes a member organizes an exciting trip abroad.

In 2017 we visited the Golden Prague, before the pandemic we managed to explore Shanghai and in 2023 we are going to Italy.
